Did you receive a positive pregnancy test result and wondering what’s next? A positive pregnancy test result is not all there is to know about your pregnancy. To know what pregnancy options you have and safeguard your health, get an ultrasound as your next step to clarity.

Do I Need an Ultrasound?

An ultrasound is an important part of protecting your health as you navigate an unexpected pregnancy. Get an ultrasound to confirm three vital pregnancy details, including:

  1. Viability (whether your pregnancy has a heartbeat & the pregnancy is progressing)
  2. Pregnancy location (whether your pregnancy is located within the uterus or if you’re experiencing ectopic pregnancy)
  3. How far along you are (also known as gestational age)

Some women experience ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. An ultrasound can alert you to pregnancy complications such as these.

How Does An Ultrasound Work?

Ultrasounds use high-frequency sound waves that create images of the inside of the uterus. It’s a safe and effective pregnancy service. Ultrasounds are medically useful for diagnosing, investigating, and examining pregnancy.

An ultrasound confirms pregnancy with two types of ultrasounds: a transvaginal and a transabdominal ultrasound.

It’s important to note that a medical abortion (the abortion pill) is only recommended for women up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, according to the FDA. Otherwise, a surgical abortion may be your only abortion option. The only way to confirm this is with an ultrasound.
